The Lions Club mission is to empower clubs and volunteers and partners to improve health and wellbeing, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding. And we fulfill it every day, everywhere we serve.
In Reading, we honor this same mission by empowering our club and it’s members to strengthen and meet the needs of Reading and surrounding communities.
How it started
The Lions organization started in 1917, with the insight of Melvin Jones who encouraged his fellow business owners in Chicago to think beyond their business needs and work to better their communities.
Reading Lions Club was chartered in 1938 and since then has become an integral part of the Reading community meeting a variety of financial and community needs, sponsoring public festivities and generally answering the call wherever help is needed.
